Skincare Routine: Oily Skin

Hey guys! So in today's post I'm going to be sharing my skincare routine with you guys. I personally love reading and watching skincare routine videos and blog posts. I find them helpful especially when I'm in the market to try out new products.

So let's start with some basic info about my skin. I have oily acne prone skin. Now with that said, I don't have really severe cystic acne or anything like that (thankfully). But I did go through phases where I had bad breakouts which took forever to clear out. With oily skin you tend to get breakouts so that's why I say I have oily acne prone skin.

My skin was so crappy for months and months. It started happening during my holiday and continued until I came back to Malaysia. Initially I thought it might have been because of the change in weather but nope that wasn't it. I broke out really badly at my jaw line on the right side of my face which is usually associated with hormones or as they call it 'hormonal acne'. Its not until recently that its finally gone. Even so I'm still not 100% sure its gone. Don't wanna jinx myself sigh. So the current state of my skin is clear for the most part but I do get the occasional pimple as most girls do during that time of the month.

Let's get into the products I use shall we? Oh also I would like to point out that the majority of the products I use are Korean products just because they work well with my skin. I know so many people who swear by Korean skincare products.

1. Makeup Remover
RM 5.30

To remove my makeup I use this cleansing tissue from Daiso. You're probably thinking Daiso...really? But yes this works really well at removing my makeup. I don't wear heavy make up so this gets rid of all my make up really well. I do however use a waterproof eye makeup remover whenever I wear my waterproof mascara which is rarely. Its the one from Maybelline. I've tried another type of wipes from Daiso but I think I like this one better.

2. Cleanser
RM 23

This cleanser is actually not for people who have oily skin. My mum wanted to get this because one of her colleague used it and my mum noticed how bright and radiant she looked. At the time I had just started using a new cleanser but it turned out to be HORRIBLE for my skin. It dried out my skin real bad so I just used this one. It works fairly well. Does the job and doesn't break me out so I don't have a problem with it. I bought myself a new cleanser which is the Innisfree apple Juicy Foam as cleanser as back up because I'm almost done with this one.

3. Toner
RM 5 or RM 7

This is possibly my most favourite toner ever. Besides the Thayers lemon witch hazel one. But this one I have repurchased multiple times before and I will continue to do so. I like it so much firstly because it leaves my skin feeling super fresh and second is because it's very affordable. I'm not one to spend a ridiculous amount of money on a toner just because I don't think they do much but ya' know they're still important. You can find it at most pharmacies. If you're lucky you can find it for RM 5. Nowadays it's price is set at around RM 7 though. Loveeeee <3

4. Exfoliator

RM 16.90

To exfoliate I use this guy that I got a while ago. This has lasted me ages ya'll. I sometimes forget to exfoliate but if I haven't done it in a while I can feel a difference in my skin. When I feel like my skin is just feeling a little meh I'll use this. Gets all the dirt and dead skin off easily. It has a pleasant scent as well. I exfoliate my skin gently and avoid parts of my face where I may have some acne so that I don't irritate it. I try to use this twice a week.

5. Moisturizer
RM 14

For the longest time I didn't use a moisturiser because I always thought that since I have oily skin putting on moisturiser will just clog my pores even more. Also because I've tried so many before from various different brands but they didn't suit my skin and lead to pimples. So I finally decided to get aloe vera gel and I specifically wanted one which was from a Korean brand just because they don't contain harsh chemicals and parabens. This particular one is veryyy famous. It feels refreshing on the skin, doesn't irritate and most importantly leaves my skin feeling hydrated. I usually use this before I go to bed every night.

The container that it comes in is a little impractical when it comes to daily use because I'll have to scoop some using a spatula and all. It just made me not want to use it ya know? So I decided to buy a little pump bottle thing. I got mine from Daiso. Doesn't it look so cute?! Anyway it works really well and now I actually like putting on moisturizer because I don't have to fuss around with the bulky container,

6. Serum
RM 25

Now this step in my skincare I would say is rather new. I started using serums early this year. Never understood what was so special about them but decided to give it a try anyway. I gotta say I really like this serum. I do see a difference even before finishing the first bottle. Even my friends complimented my skin (which i was very pleased about hehe). My skin started to clear up and my scars started to fade. I love the fact that it's not sticky! Has a pleasant lemon scent which I'm a fan of.

7. Face Mask
RM 40

RM 5.90 // RM 68

Now as for face masks, I use the clay mask from Innisfree twice a week. That one is a must for me. It pulls out all the dirt and excess oil from the skin. My skin feels amazing after using it. This is my second tub because I love it that much. Occasionally I'll use the egg white mask which I believe is a Thai brand. I only use this on my nose like a pore strip. Its all right I guess but nothing really special. As for the peeling gel from Laneige, I rarely use it because it doesn't have the same effect as the clay mask does. Its really light and thin so I'm not a big fan. Doesn't do much to the skin so if I were you I'd pass.

8. Spot Treatment
SGD 5.50  // RM 16

This product I first heard about from a Singaporean Youtuber. I think it was featured in a "things I can't live without" video. She mentioned this and raved about how amazing it is so of course I had to try it. Thing is, its not available here in Malaysia. It's a Singaporean brand so you gotta go there to get some. Luckily a friend of mine went to there so she helped me get it. I believe she got this from Watsons.

I have to say, I really like it. I've  tried countless of spot treatments from tea tree oils to the standard gel type spot treatment. None worked at shrinking and drying out my pimple like this one does. It has a pink tint to it so I don't use it before I go out. It works really well guys!!! If you can get your hands on them please do get it.

9. Sun Protection

RM34
Initially I was afraid to wear sun screen because I was worried my skin wouldn't react well. I did a lot of research before choosing this particular one since Innisfree does a few different ones. I use this whenever I go out right before applying any make up. The consistency isn't too watery nor is it too thick. I'm so pleased that it didn't break me out or anything like that. I still have lots left even after using it for a few months.

So those are all the products I use! I know this was a lengthy post but I just had a lot to say haha. Oh yea before I forget, if you're interested in purchasing any of the items I showed, you can either get them from Hermo or from Althea which is where I bought all my Korean skincare products. They're reliable, fast and 100% authentic. Some of the products are even cheaper than in the actual store here and on other online websites.

I hope you enjoyed reading this post and of course I hope this helps you in any way. Just because these products work for me doesn't necessarily mean it'll work for you so its all about trial and error. Do let me know some of your favourite skincare items down below. See you in my next post, bye!
